UPH Pekin and UPH Proctor Hospitals will transport to UPH Methodist for testing.

Collect

Serum or Plasma collected in Gold (SST)
Preferred Volume: 6.0mL, Miminum Volume Required 2.0mL

Other Acceptable Specimen(s)

Plain Red, or Green (Lithium Heparin) Vacutainer

Storage/Transport Temperature

1 mL serum or plasma at 2-8o C or frozen. (Min: 0.5 mL). If Gold SST Gel tube is used for collection serum must be analyzed within 24 hours or removed from gel tube for storage.
Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection.

Stability (from collection to initiation)

After separation from cells:

Ambient (room temperature): 8 hours; Refrigerated: 3 days; Frozen (-20o C) Stability: 1 month

Unacceptable Conditions

Citrate or oxalate/fluoride anticoagulants.

Remarks

Patients on penicillin or its derivative should be frozen if not analyzed within 4 to 6.
