Fasting defined as: No caloric intake (beverage or food) for 8 hours before the lab test No intake of artificial sweeteners for 8 hours before the lab test.

If Stat: GREEN ( Min: 3 mL) Neonate: Two full microtainers
Storage/Transport Temperature
Gold top or green (heparin) promptly at Ambient (room temperature). Do not remove cap. If transport will be delayed, seperate serum or plasma from cells, refrigerate and transport at 2-8<span style="font-family: “Times New Roman”, serif">oC. (Min: 0.5 mL serum)
Stability (from collection to initiation)
If seperated from cells:
Ambient (room temperature): 4 hours
Refrigerated: Methodist – 3 days Proctor and Pekin 7 days
Frozen (-20o C) Stability: Indefinitely
Unacceptable Conditions
Uncapped, hemolyzed, EDTA, Fluoride/Oxalate preserved specimens.
